Board Profile - Member-At-Large for Volunteer Development: Sue Flaxman
I chuckle when I look back and think about the fact that I joined the club in 2004 before I even had a bike. Well, my thinking was that I'd go to the meeting and get some great bike buying advice and ultimately I did! I also found great friends, great activities, great riding, and a whole lot more! Joining BTCNJ is just one of the best things I've ever done.
As a "transplant" from Philadelphia, the Club helped me to establish a "new" life and helped me to open my eyes to many new things. I just love to ride!
It gives me great pleasure to be part of a committee that helps to oversee the club's programs and activities, and that serves as a stepping
stone to enhancing an already great club. I love volunteering and it is my hope that as Volunteer Coordinator, I can fulfill my job by recruiting you to
help make the club programs and activities happen. Please consider volunteering for activities like the BTCNJ picnic, Ramapo Rally, Bergen Bike Tour, or
by volunteering to help with refreshments at one of the monthly meetings. Help me out by helping your favorite bike club, BTCNJ.
On a personal note, I was born and spent most of my life in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area. I have to admit, I was somewhat of a
couch potato. I did not bike or exercise. As a technical consultant, I spent a great deal of time on client site so was actually living in
two places prior to being transferred to a job in NYC. Somehow I made my way to Hackensack, where I currently reside. I started exercising prior
to moving here but didn't bike. One day I got this magic idea after a spin class that I'd like to ride a real bike outside and maybe join a bike
club so that I'd be able to bike with other people. What a crazy idea!
So….. I walked into Cosmic Wheel one day where I began talking to some BTCNJ members and the rest is history! Now I'm one of those people who sometimes hangs out at
Cosmic Wheel and talks to people in the shop who are buying bikes about joining a wonderful bike club.
We all have at least two things in common; we love our bikes and we love to ride!
