Board Profile - President: Ken Stahl
Ken Stahl's Profile
I'm 60 years old, with 3 great daughters from 20 to 28. I'm divorced but have a wonderful partner named Shirley Ripullone who shares my Wyckoff home. My sister June and I own a family business, a small bar soap manufacturing company, but in a previous lifetime I was a lawyer in San Francisco.
I've been a member of the club since 1989 (almost 20 years!) but became active mainly in the last 10 years, in various Board positions, including Rides Captain and Vice President. But I've had an interest in cycling back to the 1970's when I lived in San Francisco and often took morning rides through Golden Gate Park to the Pacific.
I mainly do C* and B rides, and usually have enjoyed riding throughout the winter, at least if the roads are not icy or snowy. I've done many commercial trips but in recent years have especially enjoyed participating in our BTCNJ tours. It's a great way to see different areas or parts of the world, with friends, at an unbeatable price.
In fact the friendships that I've found in this club have become a vital part of my life and have helped me through some unpleasant times. Of course the main purpose of the club is cycling, but for many of us, the club has come to mean much more. I'm hoping that the club can continue to offer not only great riding opportunities, throughout the year, on weekends, weekday mornings and evenings , and the great variety of short and long tours-but also other social events such as dining, dancing, and others.
Our club faces some real challenges at this time, as the growth of the internet and email has made the Masterlink less essential as a medium for organizing group rides than it once was. But I am confident that our strong membership and volunteer base will continue to make our club a vital part of the cycling community of our area.
