Annual Bergen County Bicycle Tour

Sunday, June 2, 2013
On-site registration begins 7:30 am
Bergen County Community College Parking Lot B
Paramus, NJ

BCBTRidersThe upcoming 9th Annual Bergen County Bicycle Tour, which will be held on June 2nd, promises to be a fun day for families and serious cyclists alike. The event includes a challenging 45-mile route, a rolling terrain 25 miler and a flat 12-mile route for newer riders.  Registration begins at 7:30 AM for the 45 miler which leaves at 8 AM.  The 25- and 12-mile rides leave at 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM respectively. Register today by clicking here!

A real treat as in past years is a 5-mile family ride which leaves at 10:30 AM, as it allows children of ages as young as 5+ to try to ride on a road shoulder in the street as well as through a nearby community of homes.  We encourage safety on this ride, which is aided by a local policeman and many of our BTCNJ members.  In the recent years this event has drawn approximately 700 cyclists.

Proceeds to charities

We donate all money collected net of expenses for  Bergen Community College scholarships  for needy students in addition to the  Adopt-a- Soldier Platoon  charity, which sends items to troops in Afghanistan. In 2012, we donated $5,500 for such charities.

Competition: Who is the fastest tire changer in BTCNJ?
June Club Meeting
Thursday, June 13, 2013, 7:30 p.m.
Ridgewood Library
Ridgewood, NJ

Join the fun and take on Tracy Cicatelli to see who is the fastest tire changer in BTCNJ. Our very first "Fastest Tire Changer Competition"! Legend has it that our very own Tracy can fix a flat tire in record time. To put Tracy to the test and allow her to officially claim the title of BTCNJ’s fastest tire changer, we are asking for anyone who would like to challenge her to step up and compete in our first spirited and fun tire changing competition! We encourage contestants to come prepared with their own wheels and we’ll let the games begin! The fasted tire changers will receive a special gift. Tracy will wrap up the competition with some basic points on avoiding flats and general bike maintenance tips.

To enter the competition, contact Terry Griffin at terry.griffin@nuance.com. We look forward to seeing you there!

New Club Members Ride
Saturday, June 15, 9:30 am
Start at Ramsey Municipal Parking Lot

If you’re new to the club, you’re invited to join us for the New Club Members Ride on Saturday, June 15.

Often, after joining the club new members ask, “What now? How do I start riding with a group? What are the most comfortable pace and distance for me?”

This special ride is designed to answer all those questions and led to pay special attention to those who are new to the club and perhaps new to group riding. This is a great opportunity to get you out and riding, and meet other new club members. We will have three rides, with three different distances: a C* ride at 26 miles; a C ride covering 20 miles; and a D ride with a route of 14 miles. All three rides leave at the same time. We will be following the same route the first few miles of each ride. If you’re not sure what your riding level is in terms of riding ability, pick a level. If that level is too challenging you can drop back a level by simply waiting for the next slowest group to ride by. Special thanks to Carmella and Don Schaller, past New Club Members Ride Lieutenants, for providing the smarts and the routes.

The ride, from the Ramsey Municipal Parking Lot, is over gently rolling hills. We will ride though the towns of Ramsey, Mahwah and Franklin Lakes. After the ride we will stop at a local deli for a quick lunch and then have post-ride beverages and treats.

If you wish to participate in the ride please login and sign up for the ride.

See you there!

Registration is Open for BTCNJ’s 36th Annual Ramapo Rally!
Sunday, August 18, 2013
Campgaw Mountain Reservation, Mahwah, NJ

Rally LogoNew Jersey’s largest local bicycling event, BTCNJ’s Ramapo Rally, is a 36-year old “must-ride” tradition for cyclists in the quad-state area. The routes range from a challenging ultra century 125-mile route designed for more experienced cyclists to an easy 12-mile cruise created for novice and beginning riders. Ride routes of other lengths, speed and difficulty of terrain are available for cyclists of varying skill levels. The Rally’s rides are mapped through some of the best countryside New Jersey has to offer.

You can ride the Rally routes on your own by following supplied cue sheets, on-course directional arrows or Rally provided GPS files. You also have the option of joining an escorted ride group led by a seasoned BTCNJ ride leader volunteer

Fully stocked rest stops along the way will provide snacks and drinks. You can relax and enjoy a meal and refreshments at the end of the ride, which is provided to all riders as part of the registration fee.

Adding to your fun is an expanded Marketplace Exposition, comprised of bicycle retailers, service vendors and other prominent companies serving the area. A portion of the proceeds from the Rally supports the activities of Camp Sunshine / Camp Snowflake , a local facility for multiply-disabled children and young adults.

There will be no day-of-event registration for this year’s event. There are early-bird discounts, and registration closes on August 11th. Don’t delay – register today! To register and for more information visit www.ramaporally.com.
