Spring will be here this month and the weather will bring most of us out onto the roads again. Are you ready to face the roads here in Bergen County? If the answer is an unqualified "Maybe!", this Effective Cycling course is meant for you.
This course was designed by the League of American Bicyclists and is taught by LAB-certified League Cycling
Instructors (LCI's). It gives cyclists the confidence they need to ride safely and legally in traffic. Recommended for adults and children above the age of fourteen, this fast-paced, nine-hour course prepares cyclists for a full understanding of vehicular cycling.
Following on from the success of our first Bike Ed class in 2007, BTCNJ will be offering
another class on April 19. Taught by League Cycling Instructors Jim Nicholson and Kevin Ruane, this course is designed to help you feel safer in negotiating our busy streets and highways.
Depending on our audience, covered in the course will be the following:
Classroom:
Where to ride between intersections on all types of streets
Bike lanes, and how to ride when there are none
How to safely negotiate intersections and interchanges, special emphasis on left turns
Practice and test of crash avoidance techniques (shoulder check, rock dodge, quick stop, instant turn)
The course will also include a small-group practice ride and road test on neighborhood streets (approximately ten miles).
This will be a full day course, beginning at 8 AM and lasting until approximately 5 PM. Cost will be $35 for BTCNJ members and $45 for non-BTCNJ members and will include classroom materials.
If you have already indicated an interest in this course at one of our past meetings, you will still need to sign up for the course.
Don't delay as the course will be limited to fifteen riders, first come, first served and we only have seven spots remaining. Checks should be made payable to James Nicholson and sent to 64 Peach Hill Court, Ramsey, NJ 07446. Your check will reserve your place in the class.
